I've used this software many times successfully. Don't set a new
password (if you do it breaks that user somehow), but change the user
to have no password. Then you can log in and do whatever you want.

It runs Linux of some form. You download an ISO and burn a bootable
CD. It works by editing the XP registry, but I don't know the details
of how it works.
