It is very good to hear your hardware is working. :-)

As for this kind of mistake, it happens to everyone. I once spent an hour
working on an ethernet driver for a new version of linux only to find
there were two different ethernet cables in a pile of spaghetti, and the
one plugged into the machine was not the same as the one plugged into the
wall. :-/ At least for both cases we did not call up tech support and have
them ask, "Is it plugged in?" and then let out a rather loud, "Doh!" as we
hung up the phone.

How about the date/time probem? Was your assumption on UTC/GMT correct?
