[NBLUG] The Seawolf bit me!

Well, the computer was probably running xinetd before I upgraded to RH7.1,
and wverything worked. It was not until the upgrade that I got the
"Connection refused" error.

However, as I said in my post yesterday, I downloaded the RPM for inetd that
shipped with RH6.2 and everything then worked perfectly. However, I am not
aure whether or not I unknowingly have made myself vulnerable to attack.
But given that I am the only one on the network who knows enough to possibly
hack the computer, and the network is protected from outside attack by a
firewall, am I still safe?

By the way, I fixed the sound problem that I mentioned earlier by installing
a Sound Blaster Live! and disabling the onboard sound card. It's quite an
improvement.

Just as a place to start, RH7 made a switch from inetd to xinetd -- check to
see if that's running, and the proper files are in /etc/xinetd.d. Check if
you can connect to the applicable services from the machine itself, but not
another one -- if that's the case, look at the hosts_access files and the
firewall tables (indeed look at those anyway).
