For the record, I've been very happy with Sonic too :)  (had DSL downtown, 
then moved and have it where I am now; excellent performance in both cases; 
sometimes a little slower (750kbps vs 1.2Mbps), but that could be the Net).

I've had good luck with VMware so far (running under Windows, but I hear 
that version 4 of their Workstation product has a new Linux GUI).  Their 
OS-dependent tools (work under Linux and XP at least) are also cool.  Linux 
and XP performance when using the tools is very good on a recent machine 
(fast Celeron with 384MB RAM).
