[NBLUG/talk] Shredding under a journalling filesystem

Is there a way to ensure that when using shred to remove files on a 
filesystem that uses journalling (e.g. ReiserFS), that the files have 
actually been shredded?  I looked at the info page for shred, and it warns 
that filesystems that do not "overwrite data in place", such as journalling 
filesystems, are more difficult (and possibly dangerous) to shred files on.  
Anyone know anything about this?  Is there a safer and more effective way to 
shred files on a reiserfs filesystem, preferably short of shredding the 
entire disk?
