ok. that helps a bit with my confusion. :)

mozilla proxy settings are located under

Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Proxies

does the above also mean that you have not configured networking yet on
your linux box? that is can you ping the proxy server? is the proxy
server also your default route? other questions, but i'll stop here for now.
