[NBLUG/talk] [nbs@sonic.net: [vox-announce] Linux Demo in Dav is, March 15th, 2003]

I don't know if I'd have the time to help plan the event, I possibly would
be able to show up and help with the event. I'm willing to help out with
flyers (design and printing) and might even be able to put together a
computer for NBLUG to borrow and use for the demo.

If it's going to be outside, I recommend doing it in May or June because the
general climate will be nicer then, people will be more willing to stand
around outside and fuss with computers.

I don't think O'Reilly gets enough foot-traffic from customers to really
justify a demo booth during business hours. They're definitely a good
company and seem pretty willing to support Linux, but the lack of
foot-traffic would be a killer. Bill made a good point in saying that
people who show up specifically for the demo, probably know most of what
we're demoing (although they're most certainly welcome!!! :) ). SRJC and
SSU may be good ideas if we can get a heavily trafficked spot with an
electrical outlet (we'd have to check semester start/end dates). Attention
span would be short, however, because many people are on their way to
classes, we should stay put for at least 3-4 hours to make sure people that
want to come back and look, get a chance. I don't know how Santa Rosa
Community Market would respond.. They might be amicable to the idea, I get
the feeling they're pretty nice people.

The Santa Rosa Plaza or Coddingtown might be a good place to set-up shop,
it's got the foot traffic, but I wonder if they'd be amenable to the idea of
letting us demo Linux without us having to pay for a spot (esp. with
electrical). (Uh, hi, Mr. Simon? Don't you hate it when your M$ Office
crashes every 2 hours? .... Yeah, well I did too, let me tell you how I
solved my problem!) :)

Anyway, that's my 50 cents. :)

<snip>
I think the demo day would need:
a) at least 2 people to actually be there.
b) at least 1 computer running Linux
c) a location
d) a time
e) some way to set up the computer, such as a small table. possibly also
   chairs.
f) power for the computer (battery's doable if it's a short event)
g) a coordinator to arrange all these things.
h) an announcement on the nblug.org website and to announce at nblug.org
i) some PR out to other places, possibly with printed flyers...

We could try doing the first one in the same location and at the same time
as the next InstallFest... Even cooler if they'd let us drag a table out in
front and hang a sign or something, so random passers by would see it.
