[NBLUG/talk] OpenOffice v. StarOffice

StarOffice contains a few proprietary components that are not included
in OpenOffice.org. Examples are a filter for importing Word Perfect
documents, a database, and a spell checker.

OpenOffice.org has a mechanism for connecting to external database
systems, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, and many proprietary products.
It also contains a spell checker that does not use the proprietary code
from StarOffice.

If you need customer support, or need to import Word Perfect documents,
you might be better off with StarOffice. The last version I tried was
their Beta release, which stopped working at the end of the end of
their Beta testing period! For personal use, I have been quite happy
with OpenOffice.org. I would not hesitate to try it in a commercial
environment.

Good luck,
Rick
