[NBLUG/talk] kde 3.5.4 font anti aliasing

Recently I upgraded my Debian desktop to KDE 3.5.4, only to have all the
fonts go to hell. As I've been growing increasingly unhappy with Debian on
the desktop lately, I wiped it out in favor of Kubuntu Dapper. I've
installed and fiddled with a bunch of distros at installfests, but this is
the first time in years that I've run anything besides straight Debian on
my desktop.

I cannot believe how simple that install was. I could hand that DVD to my
mom and she'd be fine... She'd probably continue to be fine after the
install as well, because the defaults are all sane and everything pretty
much seems to just work.

So after an hour or so of everything working, I got bored and installed the
freshly minted Kubuntu packages for KDE 3.5.4, and... my fonts went to
hell!

I tried several things, but what finally fixed the issue was going into the
fonts control applet and turning off anti-aliasing, hitting apply, turning
it back on and hitting apply again.

Putting that out there for any other early adopters that get bit by this
one...

Overall, I like Kubuntu quite a bit so far.
