First, thank you again you guys, I appreciate your help and input.

I ran dist-upgrade:

1125 upgraded, 472 newly installed, 106 to remove and 13 not upgraded.
Need to get 917MB of archives.
After unpacking 627MB of additional disk space will be used.

After the download the following response came back:

E: This installation run will require temporarily removing the essential 
package e2fsprogs due to a Conflicts/Pre-Depends loop. This is often bad, but 
if you really want to do it, activate the APT::Force-LoopBreak option.
E: Internal Error, Could not early remove e2fsprogs

Does anyone have any experience or input on the safety of this?
