Hello,

Thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. My last camera was a 2.1 megapixel
Hewlett-Packard, dead simple to use(turn it on, point and shoot) and
reliable, though it didn't like any SD cards bigger than 64 Mb- the
images would have file corruptions and would look strange if they came
up at all. Still, I never had any trouble getting images out of it
using either the USB cable (with the latest versions of GNOME and KDE,
the camera often appears as an icon on the desktop) or a Lexar
multicard reader (available for around $15 at Wal-Mart). My current
camera is a Fuji Finepix A345, which if anything works even easier
with Lunux than the H-P. Both save their files in .jpg format, and
both time and date the image file, which is nice when it comes time to
sort them.
