It's because Free is kind of an ambiguous term.  Most people think "$$$"
rather than "freedom".  (In Spanish, there's "Gratis" vs "Libre"; each
translating to the two different meanings of "free" in English.)

'course, Wikipedia kinda explained that.  Just wasting bits, sorry ;)
