[NBLUG/talk] Problems wiring Ethernet ports

Lincoln,

Sounds like defective ports/cables..if I were to guess. Not all pins
are used in 10/100 wiring, but pins 3&6 are.
In the RJ-45 connector, a little brass push pin is pushed down into each
wire, and if the wire doesn't extend far enough into the connector it
won't make contact and you'll be left with an open.
If you have any kind of continuity tester, you could see if you are
getting continuity on this wire, otherwise(I'm assuming your talking
about a patch cable) you can test by connecting a computer/laptop to the
switch with the patch cable and if it doesn't work, it's likely the
cable.

Cables are cheap these days and I've seen a fair amount of defective
cables in my travels, so the easiest thing is to just replace the cable.

Hope that helped,
    ---Dean.
