My EEE Arrived on Wednesday, so I have had a couple of days to play
with it. So far I really like it. The default OS was just okay, but
some packages I like to have installed did not seem to exist for it..
One was xchat, which I use a lot.. Oh and I had issues with wifi
working on a WPA encrypted network, it seemed that in easy mode when I
would tell it WPA, and give it the pass phrase, it would not keep the
wpa setting, and dropback down to WEP. I had to switch to advanced
mode to make this setting, and then I found that it was not saving the
settings after a reboot.. So I would have to repeat all the steps over
again.. Kind of strange..

After about a day with Xandros linux, I just decided I missed gnome
and ubuntu way to much, so I went to the eee ubuntu wiki, and followed
their instructions on how to do a ubuntu install from a thumb drive.
This worked well, with the exception of no wifi, but there were steps
to get that working, actually a script you need to run that
re-compiled the mad-wifi package. Once I got that all done,
everything worked perfect, even have compiz running.

It is my opinion that this little laptop is pretty sweet, and well
worth the cash paid for it, and I do recommend changing the OS,
Xandros is nice, but Ubunut in my opinion seems more polished, and has
way more packages available for it. I also have the default 512M Ram,
and I think my next purchase will be a ram upgrade for this puppy.
I've read you can go up to 2gigs. That should make it a little speed
demon..

One thing I noticed, and those pf you thinking of getting one may want
to be aware, this guy gets pretty warm, border line hot.. I'll hit it
with my non-contact thermometer leter today and post the bottom temps.

A friend of mine just ordered the EEE 900 16G, I will see if I can
talk him into joining up here and post a review..
