One feature I have always believed should be written into all software
is a resource monitor that measures it's own performance and points out
conflicts in other running programs (including system or kernel). Yeah,
I know, dream on... However, that would lead to a logics trail that
should be sent to developers that would speed the resolution of
bugs/issues and conflicts. While, providing an end user with warnings
and more intelligent dialog boxes. (something better than, "the system
has encountered an error and will shut down" Thanks Bill)<br>

I agree that people are not proactive enough wrt foss.
I think foss developers could help by making the path to
file bugs and make features requests more prominent.
Many people don't really know what to do when they
encounter a problem or wish for a feature. Others such
as myself need our noses forced into some action path.
developers can tweak GUIs in a variety of ways to
promote awareness (dialogs or panels that appear
upon invocation either always or every so often, top
choice in the File menu, link in the top-level help...).

<pre wrap="">Well, how many people do you see actually taking action against the
bugs in Windows? Microsoft even provides a helpful automatic crash
report tool ... and over half the people I've seen click cancel every
time.
Conclusion: People just don't care.

<pre wrap="">I disagree there. IMO the correct conclusions are: 1) people who are
not tech-savvy don't understand what the feature is and fear it and so
choose to not send the bug reports, and 2) people who are tech-savvy
don't trust Microsoft enough to press a "send all kinds of private info
and we're not even going to disclose what" button.
