Yeah, I have swap activated on boot up.. There has been a lot of concern about SSD life and swap, and I've read a few articles that debunk the worries.. I think the last one I read said the even with swap turned on the life expectancy of the SSD is still around 7 years. And the nice thing about the 1000 series is that the SSD is replaceable, where in my 701 (Yeah I'm a nerd, I have two EEE's lol) the SSD is soldered on the board (I have been told, I have not verified this).<br>
<br>I went with EEEBuntu because it is supposed to have a custom kernel that makes a lot of things just work better, such as the wifi drivers etc.. I know on my 701 I get 3 bars on my wifi at home, where on my 1000 with EEEBuntu I get 100%, my 701 is running regular ubuntu 7.10.<br>
<br>There really is no big difference once you have installed EEEBuntu compared to Ubuntu, both current releases are 8.10. and all the repose look the same between the two, as far as I can tell.<br><br>-Steve<br><br><br>

I used to use EEEbuntu on my 701.. I believe it doesn't turn the swap<br>
partition on by default because of the SSD and fears of wasting its life<br>
swapping in and out. You might just need to have the swap partition<br>
activate upon bootup, or maybe create a script to activate it whenever<br>
you call hibernation.<br>

I'm running normal Ubuntu on my EEE now (the ibex) and I found it easy<br>
to get all the hardware working. I don't see much of a need for EEEbuntu<br>
anymore. Just mho though.<br>
