Lots of good tips on the network cards already. I'll add that you
should forget about the bios. The bios does only two things under
linux, it gives the system the time when it starts, and it finds the
system to boot it. After Linux starts the bios does nothing. So you
don't need to worry about it for the networking cards, except perhaps to
reserve an IRQ if you have EISA network cards.
