Time drift with an Athlon 750

Hi :)

Another question...  has anyone else noticed a large amount of time drift 
(8 hours or so) when running RH 6.2?  I'm using an Athlon 750 if that helps 
at all.  The system was set up for UTC on the hardware clock during 
installation.  I've tried removing /etc/adjtime and that didn't fix the 
problem.  Since we're not in daylight savings time right now, UTC is, of 
course, 8 hours later than California, so I wouldn't be surprised if 
there's a correlation there, but I don't know where it would be.  On 
boot-up, the system says it's setting the clock and shows "(utc)" on the 
screen.  I'm not against commenting out part of an rc file if that's what 
it takes.
