(1) run "df /tmp", do you have some space available?  xfs needs to make a
directory for a pipe or something. (2) Look in the logs.  On my Debian box
there's a bit of xfs stuff that ends up in /var/log/messages; it might be
nice enough to tell you the problem. (3) In your XF86Config
(/etc/X11/XF86Config-4) there is a "Files" section with at least one
"FontPath" listed.  After the "unix/:7100" add similar lines for at least
"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc", "/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi" and
"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi".  That way if xfs is having problems, X should
still be able to find the all-important "fixed" font.
