Kernel 2.4.18-18 Compile Problems..

After I read this whole thread I wondered.... is it the system or the 
configuration....

When you install kernel source from rpm on a Red Hat box the default configs 
that Red Hat uses to compile their kernels are included in a directory called 
'configs' in the kernel source directory.  Why not pick the config for your 
processor, copy it to the source root dir as .config and do a test compile of 
the kernel source using Red Hat's default config.  This might rule out system 
problems regarding kernel compilation.  Then you can concentrate on your 
specific config.

Just a thought....  I hate chasing goblins...  Give me a known... and we can 
work from there...
