palm fun

i did some fun palm (visor actually) stuff this morning and thought i'd
share.

i found a neat article on o'reilly about the pilot-link tools:

http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/network/2000/05/05/magazine/PalmLinux.html

it's an oldie but a goodie, it talks about how to backup, restore, and
install using the pilot-xfer tool. the next two pages talk about how to
connect your palm to your network, and emulating the palm on your desktop.

once you've got installing down hop over to the showtimes site:

http://showtimes.jrray.org/

edit the getdata.cfg
run the getdata.pl
install the *.pdb's

and you should have all your favorite movie times. (oooh look 'minority
report'!)

after you're done planning what movies to see you may need to find out how
to get there. enter mapquest, AvantGo and malsync.

go to www.mapquest.com get directions click the 'DOWNLOAD ROUTE TO PDA'
link. set up your avangto account if you don't already have one.
install the avantgo software:
http://downloads.avantgo.com:80/downloads/unsupported/AvantGo3.3.tgz

now supposedly you can use the malsync tool to sync your palm to your
avantgo channels.

http://www.tomw.org/malsync/

but by this time the caffine was wearing off, and i was too lazy to
configure and install source. enter jpilot and jpilot-syncmal woo-hoo!

http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/pda/HOWTO-Avantgo.php3

follow this mandrake article and you'll be up and running with avantgo
channels.

until my next burst of energy...
