Dave,

I have a Sony VAIO (desktop) which came pre-loaded with XP.
After two evenings of grumbling and *$%#&% I finally found a well hidden and 
undocumented utility which allowed me to repartition the disk quite easily.  

If you are still interested I will try to find the utility again.
