[NBLUG/talk] Shredding under a journalling filesystem

Is there a way to ensure that when using shred to remove files on a
filesystem that uses journalling (e.g. ReiserFS), that the files have
actually been shredded? I looked at the info page for shred, and it warns
that filesystems that do not "overwrite data in place", such as journalling
filesystems, are more difficult (and possibly dangerous) to shred files on.
Anyone know anything about this? Is there a safer and more effective way to
shred files on a reiserfs filesystem, preferably short of shredding the
entire disk?
