In all versions of Windows that I've worked with and Linux at the same
time (9x,2k,XP), I had full read/write support with FAT32 (linux: vfat)
filesystems, and read-only support with NTFS v4 or v5. The write
support is an experimental option in the kernel, but with warnings that
it could muck up your data. I never liked those odds. Last I checked
on XP, NTFS was the default, but you could choose FAT32 (and even an
option for quick-format). But I don't believe there is any linux
support, read or write, for encrypted NTFS drives.
