Is darren a user in your household?  If not consider using scp or sftp
(part of ssh) instead of ftp.  I don't allow ftp in from the internet -
it isn't secure - his password could be sniffed.  There are free windows
programs for ssh, scp, sftp available.  I've used "putty" but there are
others.
