I think I ended up putting it /etc/wlan/wlan.conf:
SSID_wlan0="augienet"
wlan-ng is a real pain. I got it working by fiddling and experimenting
but I don't understand it. I *hate* that, it reminds me of windows or
troubleshooting my vehicle electrical system.
