Hello all,

We have more users of SquirrelMail on these lists than I expected, so I'm
passing on my review of the new SM 1.4.0 Release Candidate 1.

I am using both SM 1.2.10 and 1.4.0 RC1 at the same time on the same
server to test RC1. (different accounts)

There are a number of bugs in display of options (extra enabled plugins)
in this releasde candidate, but most things work fine.

IMO, RC1 is not ready for production, but is ready for many of you skilled
sysadmins, though I would suggest waiting.

Notable issues:
Themes is busted in RC1 (but fixed in latest 1.4.0 CVS)

Plugins: (options)
"message highlighting", "Spell Checker Options", (and others) have missing
or problem HTML in the "option" links that show up in netscape but not
MSIE and sometimes in Mozilla.
These will likely be fixed fairly fast (they have been reported in better
detail)... I only mention these now so as to caution you to wait for RC2.
:-)

Also, I use the plugin "Disk_Quota" to help my users know when they get
close to limits. Though it functionally works with the bar graph, you cant
use the "options" for check quota yet as deps are no longer met.

Many new features, but the ones I like the most:
Dynamic frame resizing for mailbox dirs and message separation
Nice headerwork for messages - especially lists
More incorporation of the plugins I use
Seems to support "other" imap authentication mechanisms
  (check the config.pl)

As soon as the plugins work well, I'll move my users over to it. :-)

-ME
