i drove by there and saw the one you were talking about, didn't try it

there has been some discussion on the sonic newsgroups (.net and
.help) about them revamping the wi-fi hotspot project. it seems they
will no longer require you to be a sonic member, but will still offer
the vpn connection for members if you like. 

so whatever sonic hotspots there are now, should become public
hotspots soon.

when i was on 4th today i saw they had two SSID's on different
channels, one doing wep the other not doing wep.

actually the software they use, v-one, has clients for Win, Mac, and
Linux. although i havn't actually tried any of them.

btw. on the subject of WEP, if an AP is doing WEP do i need to be
doing WEP to join the network, or just to communicate "securely"?
