You have to remember, sftp is not a function of SSH1..... The service started 
with SSH2.

take a look at the SSH with KEYS HOWTO

ssh and scp should work with the SSH1 identity keys.  I use it....

see my previous post and transfer the id_dsa.pub over and append it and see if 
that works.
