I'm sure that on at least one occasion, I've seen someone running Linux on a
Macintosh, so maybe someone here can answer this question...
Does anyone know how to set up and use aRtsd or esd on a Macintosh? I've
installed XDarwin and KDE on an iBook running MacOS X 10.2.6, and the sound
(which requires aRtsd) is the only thing that I haven't gotten to work. And
the documentation for aRtsd that I have been able to find leaves much to be
desired.
When I try to start artsd from the command line, I get the following error
message:
using device Built-in audio controller for output:
with sample rate 44100.000000, 2 channels and 32-bit sample
unsupported device.
Then it returns to the command line. I also tried to run esd from the
command line and got the same error.
Does this mean that the audio hardware on newer Macintoshes is incompatible
with software built for OSS? Or do I need to do something weird to make it
work?
