i've had good luck with a tool called cdbkup
(http://freshmeat.net/projects/cdbkup/?topic_id=137), but i noticed their
freshmeat entry hasn't been updated in a while.

if you do a search for "cd backup" on freshmeat, you'll find a lot of tools
(and a lot of non-relavent projects)...this one looks kinda interesting on
first glance:
