I recently attended a conference where one of the presentations was a
comparison of various file systems (UFS, ext2, XFS, NTFS, and WAFL), and
in many ways XFS wins. Strange thing to learn was NTFS was also very
high performance - unless you want to delete a file, then it's almost
the slowest.
