i've heard good things about suse. my biggest problem is that they don't
distribute a fully-free version. all of the cd's we've ever gotten to hand
out at nblug events have been what they call 'demo' versions.

if you want something you don't have to pay for, i'd say go redhat. that's
what i'd guess the majority of our users use, especially newer ones.

i use redhat both at work and at home. i've tried debian, but had a bad
experience...i'm planning on trying it again when i have some free time,
though i'd never recommend debian to a new user.

i've also heard some good things about mandrake, but nothing recent.

good luck!
