[NBLUG/talk] Permissions problem with audio device

I have a box running Debian/testing and kernel 2.6.2 that has a Sound
Blaster Live! sound card and uses the ALSA sound system.  It produces
very nice sound, but unless I'm logged in a root, I get a "Permission
denied" error whenever I try to play anything.

What do I need to do to allow normal users to use the sound hardware?
