[NBLUG/talk] TightVNC and RH Linux

VNC has the ability to have multiple screens, and the ports are 5800 +
screen number and 5900 + screen number.

They made the decision (good or bad) to tie the VNC screen number and
the X display number (makes it easier to keep them straight). Since
you probably already have a DISPLAY :0 running your main X server, it
(probably) choose screen number 1.[*] So most likely the ports are
5801 and 5901.

You can check which screen number by looking in $HOME/.vnc directory
under linux. You'll see some logfiles which might also help diagnose
problems.

Also, the fact that you mention port 590x and a browser leads me to
believe that you've using the Java applet viewer. When possible, I
prefer to use a dedicated viewer. You can download one for windows or
*nix from www.realvnc.com. You can also find viewers for Mac OS X,
Palm, I've heard rumors of cell phones ... well just about anything.

[*] I don't rmemeber right now, but they may have made the decision to
not ever grab display :0, since that is typically reserved for the
hardware X server.
