Turns out it wasn't a filesystem issue--it was a RAID issue, and it
boiled down to just knowing the right command. I just needed to
figure out how to start the array when one disk was missing, and it
worked just fine.
Now I just need to contact Maxtor and get that hard drive replaced
(it's still under warranty) before another hard drive decides to fail.
