Or pick up a used Lenovo X40 on ebay for about $300.  It has 
a full size keyboard, 10.2 inch screen, 40Gb hard drive and 
is cheap and quite solid.  Ubuntu slides right on with no 
problems.  I get about 3.5 hours for a full charge on the 
battery.  And it's under 3 pounds.
