I guess it's too late to try it in this case, but for future
reference, if you want to recover (instead of just blanking) a
Windows password, give Ophcrack a try
( http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ )

The free version can crack alphanumeric passwords, usually in
just a few minutes. If the passwords contain punctuation or other
special characters, you'll need the commercial rainbow tables,
which cost a bit of money.
