If you're not set on running KDE4 you may want to consider the Jaunty KDE3 Remix:

I haven't tried it, but I have watched the furor that ensued after the Kubuntu folks
unilaterally went to KDE4 in Intrepid.

I'd be interested to see if this works for you.
