[NBLUG/talk] Changing Default Login Shell without using /etc/passwd

Ok, here's a wobbler I have on my desk.  

We're using Active Directory for user authentication and home
directories. It's not passing login shell back to Kbuntu.  

Now when I bring up any terminal under KDE they use the default default
of /bin/sh, which is antiquated in most students estimation. I'm trying
to find a way to set the default default to /bin/bash. 

chsh will not work as the users have no entry in /etc/passwd to modify. 

I've been trying stuf in .profile but that doesn't seem to work at all.
