James: I'm not sure what version of Ubuntu was loaded onto your
laptop, but you can download copies from <a
href="http://www.ubuntu.com/">Ubuntu.com</a>. As I said, if you
subscribe to the mailing list and post your message to <a class="moz-txt-link-abbreviated" href="mailto:talk@nblug.org">talk@nblug.org</a>,
you can learn a lot. Make sure you subscribe because most people
respond to the list, and may not reply to your email address directly.<br>

Just describe how your machine is set up, and what your problem is.
People are very patient and will ask questions back to you to help
understand what really went wrong, and/or how to fix it.<br>

I am really sorry, but we have opted to cancel the Installfest due to a
lack of sign ups. Yours was the only one!<br>

Somebody there might be able to help decipher the error messages and
find a work around. I'm also sure that a lot of folks will have
suggestions for alternative distros.<br>

My 2 cents: There's a light-weight version of Ubuntu, called <a
href="http://www.xubuntu.org/" target="_blank">Xubuntu</a>. The X
stands for <a href="http://www.xfce.org/" target="_blank">xfce</a>, a
window manager that requires
much less memory that Ubuntu's gnome desktop (or <a
href="http://www.kubuntu.org/" target="_blank">Kubuntu's</a> KDE
desktop). <br>

Again, as the installfest coordinator, I'm sorry to have to cancel the
event. We plan to try again in the spring, and will hopefully do more
advertising to drum up interest. If you have any questions, you can

I was at the installfest in the spring and Ubuntu was <br>
installed with xp. Ubuntu filled only half the screen. <br>
I never could fix it. The error log said insufficient <br>
memory. Knoppix on cd will give me a full screen. <br>
I had troubles with xp, and the reinstall of xp <br>
killed Ubuntu. I am willing to try any distribution to get a full
screen. <br>
