[SoCoSA/discuss] OE6 - chimes on *check*?

H'lo, all -- got an odd problem with Outlook Express 6; my 1st pass thru Google
didn't help me (search 1 -- 5 results, none relevant; search 2 -- 900 results,
1st 3 pages irrelevant but haven't gone through all of 'em); over on
microsoft.com
it's 7000-11000 results.  :-/     I suspect I need better search-terms.

It falls into the category of "annoyance" rather than an actual work-stopper...

One of my users had a complaint that her OE6 (6.00.2800.1123) has begun to
"chime" or sound a bell (just as if a new message was rec'd, but there'd be no
new message), though she says she "hasn't changed anything" (when do they
EVER admit to chaning things?)  She now tells me that she's pretty sure it's
chiming every time it *checks* for a message, whether or not a new message
is there.

I see where to turn the chime on/off upon receipt of a new message, but nothing
for *checking*...  Has anyone met this, and does anyone know of a fix?

Any hints appreciated.
