Someone asked last night about VMWare and disk images...  Here's a
couple of resources along those lines:

http://tinyurl.com/ns3t8 - A thread on vmware forum regarding loopback
devices.

http://tinyurl.com/lvlnr - A link to a HOWTO on the Haiku OS site,
describing how to use raw images.

http://tinyurl.com/mb6f5 - A blog talking about "LiveView", a
windows-based utility for using raw disk images with VMWare, still
Beta.  They claim it's useful for forensics, as it doesn't write
anything back to the original image.
