[NBLUG/noise] Windows networking

Actually, netbeui is still possible in even 2000/XP, it's just not
turned on by default anymore.  But one could run netbios over TCP/IP
even back in the WfW 3.11 days ...  As netbeui isn't a routable protocol
and was only designed for small networks, companies that had large IT
infrastructures, especially across multiple sites, needed to have a more
robust and usable protocol.  TCP/IP was a real PITA to set-up in WfW
3.11, though.  Win '95 and '98 made it a bit easier to setup TCP/IP.
Win 95 and 98 both enabled all three major protocols (Netbeui, IPX/SPX,
TCP/IP) on all network adapters and modems with the pitiful excuse of
making it easier to setup for the user.  This was obviously a mistake as
it caused all kinds of conflicts and confusion.  Anyway, I'll stop the
rant now. :)
