Is this a genuine question? I bet we can try to answer this here.

General information:

Often modules are compiled for specific versions of kernels, but sometimes
they are not. Generally speaking, a modules compiled for a Linux-2.2
series kernel will seldom ever work with a linux-2.4 series kernel.

What we would need:
1) Copy and paste the error messages you see (we may need more from your
log files later, but the errors messages often really help.)
2) What version kernel are you running?
 to find out, log in and type:
$ uname -a
3) What version does the module from IBM say it is and what (if anything)
do the README from IBM say about making it work?

You should realize that not all winmodems presently work with Linux.
Unless it is specificly stated that your model computer/winmodem is meant
to use that driver, do no get your hopes up that it can be made to work
with what is available right now.

I have a winmodem on my laptop. It is the only "real" device not supported
on my laptop. I have everything else working.
