Hello all my free software advocate friends of the NBLUG,

I wanted to introduce those unfamiliar with the Ruckus society to the
Tech Toolbox Action Camp.

They are looking for all sorts of people, including those to give
speeches on free software.

I am currently signed up to be a volunteer and I know they can use the
help, so sign up!

What is it you ask? The general idea is this (stolen from site):

In June 2002, The Ruckus Society will host its first-ever Tech Toolbox
Action Camp on the west coast. The camp will bring together activists to
talk about how they're using the internet and other technologies in
working for change--and to show others how to do the same.

The camp will consist of six tracks: five tracks where technical skills
will be presented and discussed in a hands-on setting, and a sixth "Tech
to Tech" track where brainstorming will be the norm. New ideas and
solutions will be actively sought.

Computer labs, topic panels, campfires, music and conversation will
round out the camp landscape, while the top-notch Ruckus field kitchen
will provide excellent vegetarian fare.

The focus of the camp will be as much on creativity as computation, as
much about pragmatism as processor speeds. We will mix both activist
geeks and non-technical activists, seeking ways to better utilize
technology in our work, and to do so as creatively as possible. An
underlying theme of the camp is the importance of creative and effective
messaging in technology-enabled campaigns.

In order to assess and serve the technical needs of the activist
community, we will present many different perspectives and voices on the
roles, risks and appropriate uses of technology while presenting
guidelines and best practices for utilizing these means. The camp will
also address questions of access and privilege around technology: who
has access to these technologies, who is online, and who do we leave out
when we use these methods to work for change?
