I believe only video editing is done on the macs so
its not necessary to
get open office on them

strategy

Installing OpenOffice on MacOS X is possible, but it
is not very easy.

OpenOffice on MacOS X looks and feels just like the
versions for other
UNIX

systems (including Linux). It also requires X11, just
like the versions
for

other UNIX systems. The easiest way to handle this is
to install Apple
X11,

but if you want to avoid installing any more
proprietary stuff on these
Macs

(X11 is open-source, but Apple X11 is proprietary),
you should install

XDarwin. XDarwin is more difficult to install, but if
you know what
you're

doing, it will make it easier for you to install and
run countless

open-source goodies besides OpenOffice.

I've written a tutorial on how to set up XDarwin and
OpenOffice for the

North Coast Mac Users' Group. If you want, I can send
you a copy.
However,

I cannot guarantee that it will work for your Mac labs
exactly as
expected

(it has not been tested on anything except my iBook),
but if you have
any

problems, I can (try to) help you to solve them.
