[NBLUG/talk] locales

I have a debian system, and I don't seem to have locales setup right.
I've seen various error messages telling me to fix it, but I have no
idea how:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
	LANGUAGE = (unset),
	LC_ALL = (unset),
	LANG = "en_US"
    are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").

any help?
