One feature in the Gimp puts it way ahead of photoshop:
Code Extention. You can built perl scripts to perform various complicated
operations for you. The power of perl and other language to customize
complicated operations on an image just seems to be missing in Photoshop -
you either get what they *think* you should have, or you don't get it.
(Have not tried recent versions of PhotoShop for this, I'm just assuming
things are same as they were before.)
For people who do not want to program, and/or integrate programming into
their Desktop Publishing work, are likely to enjoy the pre-built PhotoShop
interface. For my world, the GIMP is better than PhotoShop, but that comes
from use.
