no way.

Photoshop is faster, has better tools, is more polished and works with
large images very well.

The multi tasking in the gimp is terrible, try saving three images at
once, I dare you.

The tools aren't quite as good, it's not polished at all, the UI is the
worst UI ever for a graphic design program.

It chokes on large images.

With that said, the gimp is the best OSS/FSF  program for gnu/linux.

It is however not a replacement for photoshop unless your not a pro with
graphics.

I once attempted to get a graphic designer I know to switch to the gimp
and he just about died (and not just from the UI).

The gimp has a long way to go before they can displace adobe.
